Mystic Aquarium South African Wine Dinner 2019
February 16 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm$69.95
Mystic Aquarium will host its annual South African Wine Dinner on Saturday, February 16th from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Ocean Blue Catering, the Aquarium’s exclusive event caterer, will present a four-course dinner with exquisite South African wine pairings against a backdrop of the exquisite sea life of Mystic Aquarium’s Main Gallery to raise awareness of the plight of the endangered African penguin.
While African penguins are a fan favorite, their presence at Mystic Aquarium is more than an attraction; it’s key to the survival of this endangered species. Mystic Aquarium is proud to be a founding member of the African penguin Species Survival Plan (SSP) and is uniquely positioned and qualified to operate in the cooperative animal management program which makes breeding and transfer recommendations, ensuring the long-term survival of the species in accredited Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) facilities.
Guests must be 21 or older to attend; the cost is $69.95 per person, inclusive of tax and gratuity. Reservations for tables of eight or ten are also available. For more information or to make a reservation, visit https://tickets.mysticaquarium.org/mainstore.asp#cat1230.
The evening begins with a cocktail hour with passed hors d’oeuvres complemented by Excelsior Chardonnay, a crisp selection with lively flavors of green apple, citrus and pineapple, and an introduction to the guests of honor: some of the Aquarium’s African penguins!
A salad course will feature summer greens with slaphakskeentjies (pronounced slup-HUK-skean-keys), a South African cooked onion salad, served with Indaba Chenin Blanc. One of South Africa’s most widely planted varietal, Chenin Blanc is the Cape’s signature white, featuring vibrant flavors of honeyed pear, golden delicious apple and luscious tropical fruit.
The evening’s entrée will feature mildly spicy peri peri chicken with fresh grilled vegetables and Man Merlot, an elegant, classic style of Merlot with distinctive plum flavors and soft tannins.
Dinner will conclude with a sweet treat of melkert, a South African milk tart, served with banana fritters, caramel sauce and Harvest Dessert wine.
