The Rhode Island Food Policy Council (RIFPC) is thrilled to announce that Sumana Chintapalli has joined the RIFPC staff as the new Communications, Outreach and Events Director. Sumana recently relocated to Rhode Island from New York, and brings a range of experience in food systems, food policy, communications, law, and community health.
“The RI Food Policy Council is fortunate to have found someone so uniquely qualified to help us inform the public about the continually growing and evolving food system work in our state,” said David Dadekian, Chair of the RIFPC’s Communications Committee. “Sumana’s background in marketing and public policy, along with her work in health and food systems, make her a very welcome addition to our staff.”
Sumana received her master’s degree in food systems from New York University, her JD from Northeastern University School of Law, and a BS in Mass Communication from Boston University. At NYU, she worked with a research team at NYU Medical Center and the Manhattan Veterans Administration on a study aimed at improving weight management within the primary care setting and incorporating technology to assist with goal setting practices for lifestyle behavior change. At Northeastern, she was involved with the Public Health Advocacy Institute, working on health policy issues related to obesity.
