The 2014 James Beard Foundation Restaurant and Chef Awards Semifinalists were announced today and a number of Rhode Island chefs and restaurants are included on this year’s list.
Congressman Jim Langevin kicked off a tour of food-related businesses in Rhode Island on Monday with a press conference at Daniele, Inc. in Burrillville. The tour is designed to allow Langevin to meet leaders from agriculture, hospitality, manufacturing and food sales and discuss what tools they red to be successful and to help Rhode Island’s food economy grow.

Last November nine of Rhode Island’s top bartenders gathered at The Eddy in Providence, along with a crowd of many more bartenders, four judges and a lot of Bols Genever, to compete for a trip to Tampa to celebrate Repeal Day. Because of the Repeal Day prize the cocktails created were to all be Prohibition-era inspired.
The Sun WineFest ’14 is this weekend and as always it attracts some of the best names in the food, wine and spirits world to the Mohegan Sun Resort in southeastern Connecticut. This past November, Gracie’s restaurant in Providence hosted a No Kid Hungry fundraiser for Share Our Strength. Gracie’s Executive Chef Matthew Varga and Pastry Chef Melissa Denmark were joined by several guest chefs–Chef Matt Gennuso of Chez Pascal in Providence, Chef Keith Luce of The Square in Greenport, New York and Evan Mallett of the Black Trumpet Bistro in Portsmouth, New Hampshire–to prepare the evening’s cocktail reception and multi-course dinner.
